Hi guys,

I was using Adium instant messaging client on Mac OS X but recently when I open it am getting an update error as shown below. See image for more information and advice me on way forward.

Adium does not have permission to write to the application’s directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help.

It seems that the problem with Adium this time is about your user rights when doing minor changes to your operating system. Just like when you are using Microsoft Windows, any user that doesn’t have an administrator account or an account that doesn’t have administrative privileges will not be able to install or uninstall a program.

And this includes updating a program because updating a program also means uninstalling the old version and installing the new version. So, if you are not using an administrator account you will not be able to accomplish this task. As with a Mac computer, this policy is also applied. You can still update Adium to the latest version by logging in using an administrator account.

If you are already using an administrator account and this error still happens, you should update the program manually. Open your web browser then visit Download Adium 1.5.7 to download the latest version. Next, uninstall Adium from your computer then run the newly downloaded installer to install the latest version, Adium 1.5.7.
