Additional Firewall for Microsoft Security Essentials

I recently changed my anti virus to Microsoft Security Essentials but now I am wondering if I need to use an additional firewall. A friend of mine told me that MSE is just a vanilla anti virus and he actually recommended that I use Comodo Internet Security along with MSE, can this really be beneficial? Or is there a better anti virus that I can use along with MSE?

Thanks.

Hello Chachie,

First of all, please keep in mind, the first rule of using Antivirus Programs, and that is “Only one Anti-Virus Program” in a system at any time.

You see the reason is that, if you use more than One Antivirus or Antimalware program in your system to run simultaneously, your PC will face remarkably decrease performance, may become unstable and may Re-Start unexpectedly.

So when you have installed the Microsoft Security Essentials, which bundles up the Antivirus and Anti malware comprehensively, with the Microsoft’s own brains monitoring and counteracting the threats.

BUT this Bundle does not have any Firewall capabilities. For firewalls Microsoft has provided the windows firewall built-in in the operating system. The firewall in Win XP or with Win 7 is a very strong tool, and you need to properly configure it to act as a good shield.

Comodo is a good alternative.

Regards,

PT

1. You are talking about to use two antiviruses in the computer at the same time,This is not a good idea at all because it will decrease your computer performance and will slower it.

2. Use 1 antivirus that fights against the viruses and malwares because antivirus is must to be used.

3. There are different antiviruses that are being used nowadays in which Kaspersky, Bit Defender and Trend Micro are among top three. These antiviruses will not slower your computer speed as well.

Finally Use only one antivirus at one time. If you are not satisfied by MSE then move to the top three as I've already mentioned. Hope it will solve your problem.

Thanks.
