On my PC, I am running Windows XP. I have noticed that while running a few programs like FireFox, VLC Media Player and AIM, the active window deactivates all of a sudden and I have to click it again to activate it. The colour of the window also becomes lighter in shade. Why does this happen? How can I correct it?

Hello,

There could be a few possible causes of this:

  1. There are processes running in the background which are running unnecessarily
  2. One of the open applications, say VLC is taking control of the OS while you are working on some other application, say AIM

Follow the steps below to solve this:

  1. Open task manager by pressing the keys Ctrl+Alt+Del at the same time
  2. Click on the Performance tab to check if the memory resources being used are under normal levels
  3. Click on the Processes tab to see the processes running in your computer
  4. Close unwanted processes by selecting them and clicking on End Process

These steps should solve the problem.
