Hi friends,

Earlier I used Microsoft Word 2003, I could change the writing mode simply by activating the option in the status bar at the bottom. Now I am using Word 2007, there is no option as such to change the writing mode in status bar. Can anyone help me to change writing mode.

Thanks.

Overtype mode enables you to overwrite the current text of a document in Microsoft Word 2007 while typing. In earlier versions of Word, it was quite easy to switch between Insert mode, which inserts new text while retaining existing text, and Overtype mode:

All you had to do was double-click the "ovr" indicator in the status bar or press the "Insert" key. With Microsoft Word 2007, this is no longer possible. You can still use Overtype mode, but you will have to configure Word 2007 to do so.

1. Open Microsoft Word 2007.

2. Click the "Office" button, which is the button in the top-left corner that has the Microsoft Office icon on it.

3. Click the "Word Options" button at the bottom of the menu that appears.

4. Click "Advanced" in the left-hand pane.

5. Click "Use Insert key to control overtype mode" in the right-hand pane under the Editing Options header. To make the Overtype mode the default, click the check box next to "Use overtype mode." Click "OK."
