I mounted a Wester Digital Caviar HDD on a friend's computer but it doesn't show up as a partition in My Computer. However, it does show up in the BIOS and in the device manager. I have tried mounting it with 2 other computers and the same thing happens.

What do you think is the best way to solve this problem?

Wester Digital Caviar HDD disk drive is the best disk drive that you can ever use and honestly, I appreciate your choice as well. The solution to your problem is that you should check out the jumper settings whose image is displayed on the hard drive. Just check the jumper settings from there and set jumpers as per requirements. There exists different jumper settings for primary slave or primary master and secondary slave or secondary master.

Just follow these simple steps and your problem will be resolved. The following images will help you

Hello GheoTeo,

Based on the problem that you have written and discussed above, I can assume that you are ultimately having problems with the partitioning of your hard disk. There are two ways on which you can solve your problem.

1) Make the hard disk as your 1st priority by going to BIOS, and then insert a bootable OS disk. And then, you can have your partition.

2) Right click the my computer icon, there, you will see 'manage' option, click it, then go to disk management. Then, there, you will see your main hard disk with space allotted. Right click it and shrink the volume of that size which you want to partition.

I hope this will help you,
