Networking
I recently bought a laptop. Problem is, it doesn't connect to my WIFI network. For some reasons, it just appears that "Connection Failed" and I couldn't even get it to ask for my WEP key.
Any advise?

Hi.
I am currently in this place where the power outlets are those kinds that are only for 2-prongs, meaning it doesn't have the third hole which is supposedly for the "ground prong". My PC has a 3-pronged plug. So what I could probably do is, I have to plug it into a 3-to-2 pronged adapter before plugging it into the power outlet.
My worry is, will this cause any issue or future damage to my PC? Is there any risk involved then?
Thank you so much for the input.

Hi all, I have an office with 11 servers using 2003 domain and 2008 member servers.
Nearly all the deskptop sand laptops are running accompanied by windows 7 pro here and there. The one 2003 server we do have seems to block all the PCs from gaining access to it.
Then adding in the dhcp for this ip address, if it is given a new IP address it will connect fine. I have uninstalled the av software and the firewall has been successful deactivated. This one has got me stumped.
Any help please?

Hi,
I´m in currently in a trial with SBS2011 in VM on a similar wire to the production DHCP server. The CIW stops working when it sees DHCP which it believes is a router.
I am unable to deactivate DHCP in the production area but I have to in order to run through this CIW so I can evaluate the features of SBS.
Does anybody know of a way of fooling the registry into skipping the DHCP server?

Hi all,
I´ve just got a Linksys wireless G router which has made my life hell since I configured it according to instructions on the net a little while back.
I can usually easily detect a network signal but when I connect using an Acer laptop which uses Vista it will not connect. I tried connecting using a friend’s laptop and that didn´t work either but when I connect using a cable instead of wireless it connects fine, which is no good because I need wireless options.
I have tried rebooting the router and thought I would go back to the factory settings.
After resetting it still won´t connect so I really am stuck now, can anyone help me?

Hey all,
Today was a good day I joined a Mac to my school´s Windows Server 2003 network and was quite proud of myself. That is until I logged in as a test student and found that a pupil had access to all the other student's files and some other important locations on the computer.
Test student obviously shouldn´t have these and was specifically designed not to have any access but it seems that they could access to their peer´s directories as well and some folders that seem to be private. This is not a problem with the other PCs.
Any ideas what is wrong?

Hi everyone,
I have got a trial with SBS2011, however, to keep initial CAPEX to the lowest possible mark I am going to re-use a W2k3 server license with the twenty Terminal server CALS it is at all possible
If needed I know I can install extra servers into an SBS2011 domain. I need to know if it’s possible to install W2K3 server onto this domain or are extra servers needed as W2K8 R2? If this is the case can I recycle my ´03 Terminal server CALS?
In an ideal world I would only need the T to be on W2K3 and really don´t want to have to purchase W2K8 license as well as W2k8 TS CALS.
Cheers in advance.

Hi all,
My Server has SBS 2003 installed on it, which is running Exchange 2007. Whenever users on the network try to send emails to a private source they just go into a queue and never leave. But if the same user tries to send on to @yahoo, @msn, @gmail etc. it is fine and goes straight through.
I have looked into it and I am not on any sort of blacklist. The mails for the companies that won´t send have been sent many times before with no issues so I know they don´t have a problem. I tried it with my own personal domain and that won´t work either.
The internet works great and I can access the websites of the people I am trying to email. I need help with this any advice would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I am pretty new to routers and all that entails and I have a big problem that is really bothering me. I'm using a standard setup cisco 5505 with an exchange server that clients can access internally using an IP (10.x.x.x) and from the outside using an IP that my ISP assigns.
When inside, I can´t access the external IP. It won´t let me ping or tracert. If needed I could activate the access if I but that is not really the issue. I just introduced a wireless-router to this existing config and everything seems to be working well. However, when people connect to the router they obviously can´t see my mail using the external connection as they are part of the network.

Hi all,
I´m a telecommuter who has just entered an internet dark zone. I had a T1 line for years but due to budget cuts I have to pay for it now so I obviously wanted to use it for both work and my personal use. I employed a network expert who says it is not secure to have it at home and I should but a switch that costs over $1000 dollars.
The company I am using is Cisco and the enet port is cisco which is configured to be used for VLAN. The IT department says that this is too risky and they won´t do it but other telecommuters I know are doing it so I want to know honestly, what is going on?
