I have a Celeron laptop which I don't usually use because it is really slow and it doesn't have much memory on its hard disk and RAM. It only has 60 GB HDD and 512 Gb RAM . But there is a Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 installed on it. And it can connect wirelessly to any network. When I open it again, I have installed about a hundred plus updates from Microsoft which includes the service pack 3.

All the updates were successfully updated except for the Microsoft .NET framework. When I try to boot from safe mode to check if I can fix the error, I was continuously tapping F8 key but I can only boot to my normal window. I have run ESET Smart Security 4 to check for any possible virus.

But it did not detect any harmful infections. I also run the recovery disk but that didn't help me solve the issue. I was thinking that maybe I am infected with a spyware but why does my anti virus did not detect any threat? I made a series of rebooting and tapping F8 key to boot into safe mode, but I have no luck. I was hoping that someone here can send me detailed solutions on how to fix this. Thanks.

Hi,

I have read the issue that you have on the computer not going to the safe mode and here’s another way to go to safe mode.

  1. Click Start button at the lower left corner of the screen
  2. Click RUN and then a search bar will appear
  3. On the search bar type in: msconfig and then hit ENTER
  4. A screen will open up, click the boot.ini/boot tab at the top of the screen
  5. Put a check mark on the box beside safe boot, and then select network
  6. *Click OK
  7. A pop up window will load up asking you to reboot the computer, go ahead and reboot the computer
  8. After the computer rebooted back, you’ll notice a different screen that’s colored black with the words safe mode.

If you are done resolving the issue, we need to have it reverted back to the normal start up so that safe mode will no longer appear after you reboot the computer.

  1. Click Start button at the lower left corner of the screen

  3. On the search bar type in: msconfig and then hit ENTER
  4. A screen will open up, click the boot.ini/boot tab at the top of the screen
  5. Uncheck the box beside safe boot
  6. Click OK and
  7. A pop up window will load up asking you to reboot the computer, go ahead and reboot the computer
  8. RESTARTthe computer

And you may want to try this cleanup process that I have here.

  1. open 'internet explorer'
  2. on the address bar or the http bar at the top, type: malwarebytes.organd then hit ENTER
  3. click on the link for downloading it and install it on the computer
  4. once it’s done installing, you will see an icon of it on the desktop screen, we need to open it up and look for 'full scan' and click it
  5. This will scan the computer for 30 minutes – 45 minutes depending on the volume of programs installed on the computer.
  6. Once it’s done scanning the computer, you will see all the viruses and spywares that are detected on the computer
  7. Delete everything and before restarting the computer, we need to change the settings of the computer.

You can check the following to locate your error.

See your laptop keys are working fine.

See that your BIOS have not set the default key for safe mode to another in many computers they may be different try some different key such as press DEL+ENTER many times while booting it may be the key set form your BIOS. If you can access you BIOS then check them to make sure that you are using the right key.

A simple thing but complicated is to turn you PC on you power supply and again when window is loading plug off the power it will automatically prompt you for the mode you want to select. But it is now the right way to do so. You can check different combination of keys.
