Need for a simple social networking script

What is the difference between dating script and simple social networking script? Is there a package for this simple social networking that would add plugins for the feature and functionalities of a dating script which includes blocking, chat, forums, password protected images that was uploaded and the likes. I want something new as buddypress was terribly slow as what my sis told me. If anyone has experience in any simple social networking script, kindly share it with me.  I am in no way affiliated with this organization.  Just want something that would serve my needs to enjoy.  Thanks and best regards to all.
