Termination of Straight through and cross over cables

A straight-through cable is different from a crossover cable. In a straight-through cable, the arrangement of the color-coded cables on 1 end of the cable should exactly be the same on the other end of the cable. It is a Cat 5 cable that has similar wiring on both ends. This cable layout is used on Local Area Networks or LAN.
A crossover cable is only done if you wish to create a network between 2 computers. The arrangement of the color-coded cables is very different from the one used on LAN or the straight-through cable. Pins 1, 2, 3, and 6 are crossed over to pins 3, 6, 1, and 2 [this is the right sequence] respectively.
