Help format a USB flash disk to ext2 using Windows?

I have a computer running on Windows XP and I want to format my 16 GB USB FLASH DISK to ext2 filesystem. I have heard this can only be possible running on Linux Can this be possible on windows?

Hi,

You can use the Linux system to format your flash drive without installing the Linux. All you have do is find a Linux based OS like Ubuntu (free download). Then follow these steps.

1. Insert the Ubuntu cd
2. Restart the machine
3. Start using Ubuntu cd
4. Try Ubuntu without installing (Then you can run the Ubuntu without installing)
5. Format flash drive
6. Shutdown.

You can use Ubuntu, kubuntu, edubuntu, fedora, or any other Linux OS.

Help format a USB flash disk to ext2 using Windows?

You can first change the file system and then you will be able to perform the format task. To change the file system you need to select manage form the menu you will get by right clicking on my computer icon, then go to disk management tab and perform the task.

Yes, that’s right. You can easily format a drive using the EXT2 file system if you are using a variant of the Linux operating system like Linux Ubuntu. In Microsoft Windows, it only supports formatting drives using FAT, FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS file systems. But even if this is the case, formatting a drive using the EXT2 file system is still possible under the Windows operating system.

You only need the proper tool to do it. You can use EaseUS Partition Master. To try this, download the latest version of EaseUS Partition Master Home and install it. Once installed, connect your USB flash drive on the USB port then start EaseUS Partition Master. Next, right-click your USB flash drive then select “Format partition.”

In the Format partition dialog, type the new label of the drive in the “Partition Label” field. From the “File System” dropdown list, select “EXT2” then click “OK.”

After this, click “Apply” then you’re all set. The drive will now be formatted using the EXT2 file system. Please remember: after formatting the drive with the EXT2 file system, Microsoft Windows will no longer be able to recognize the drive unless you connect it on a computer running on Linux.
