The Essentials of 4G Phone

I have a Blackberry Torch 9860. This phone is one of the latest 4G phone as of this day. But I cannot understand what the essentials of a 4G phone are. Does it mean that when I leave the house, I am bringing the wireless capabilities by bringing my 4G phone? Can I get a connection everywhere I go? Can someone please explain what does 4G really stands for? Thank you.

The Essentials of 4G Phone

4G is an Acronym which means its 4th generation and its also called “beyod 3G”. Yes you can enjoy High Quality Video Streaming and “anytime, anywhere” voice and data at much higher speed than previous generations, also, it is a technology that will transform wireless communications in a completely new way. 4G technology will not only be used for cellular telephone system, but will also include several types of wireless broadband access communication systems.  But that doesn't mean its wireless you can use 4G “anywhere, anytime”? NO,  it depends to your network provider so that you can access 4G data on your phone. It needs to activate before you can use it, like here in the philippines we need to configure it first so that the 4G will be activated.

The Essentials of 4G Phone

Here’s an explanation what 4G is. The term “4G” is just an abbreviation that stands for “fourth generation”. It is the fourth generation wireless in the stage of mobile broadband communications that follows or succeeds the third generation or 3G.

Mobile carriers that use “OFDM” or “orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing” as an alternative to “TDMA” or “time division multiple access” or “CDMA” or “code division multiple access” are more and more marketing their services as being 4G even if their data speeds are not as fast as what ITU or International Telecommunication Union specifies.

A 4G network should allow a mobile device to exchange data at 100 Mbps that is according to the ITU. On the other hand, a 3G network can only offer speeds as slow as 3.84 Mbps. When 4G is completely implemented, it is expected to allow “pervasive computing” wherein simultaneous connections to numerous high-speed networks will offer seamless handoffs all through a geographical area.
