Can I combine PLEX and backup Server?

I need to build a home server that I will use for backing up data from my home PC’s. I also want to use it as a PLEX media server at times. My friend told me that it might not be a good idea to combine the two functions to be done by one server. I am finding this to be somehow misinformed. Is it true that I will not be able to use the two functions at once?

Can I combine PLEX and backup Server?

You can combine PLEX media server and back up server. But note that both of this server will share the same resource. So it will be slow for both. Also you need  very good server processor and RAM to support both of this function in one server. Otherwise server may crash.

My suggestion is increase your RAM and install a very good processor. Then use PLEX  media server and back server from one server system. It will be little bit slow but it will fulfil your purpose without wasting money.
