Why is my CD- ROM selecting disks

How do I play other disk format on my laptop CD – ROM? My laptop disk player is always playing CD and DVD RW+ format while other format is not seen from the drive. The manufacturer manual says the disk player can play all dvd format, but that is not he since I bought the laptop. I initially believe it was caused by the disk player dirty lens, but after repeated cleaning there is no notable difference.

Why is my CD- ROM selecting disks

Here are some suggestions that you may find doable:

1. You may try playing the CD to other player just to see if the CD itself is readable. 

2. Try playing other CD with the same writer as the one you would like to use, ex. Blu ray.

3. Try checking the configuration of your player.

Why is my CD- ROM selecting disks

First of all, verify you have the latest drivers installed for the CD-R drive. There are numerous driver related issues that may cause a CD-R drive to stop reading CD-R disc formats. If you have Microsoft Windows verify your drive is properly detected and listed in Device Manager with no errors. If the drivers are detected and listed in device manager, then check with the manufacturer for latest updated drivers. If Windows Device manager detects an error, remove it and reboot the computer to latest windows initialize the drives.
