Are iPad sales down this year when compared with last year, why?

It is said that iPad sales has come down this year when compared with last year. I think it was expected for the users to replace the existing tablets every two or three years. But now it is seen that many users are sticking on to their tablets for longer time. Can anybody throw some light about the real cause of sales decline of iPad and tablets?

When Apple introduced their first iPad in 2010 many people believed that it will be leading in the post-PC era of consumer electronics. It is true that the introduction of the iPad unlocked the first new category in consumer electronics. But now it is no longer the same. The iPad or the tablet market, in general, is striving.

Hubert Joly, Best Buy CEO, described it as crashing. It turns out that tablets and PCs are more alike than what their manufacturers believed. It’s like, when you have a tablet from a specific generation, it is not clear if you have to move on to the next generation. It’s like loving your device forever.

Regardless of the increase in sales of the iPhone in the quarter ending in June, the sales of the Apple iPad weakened to about 8 percent [8%] to $5.8 billion.
