Can’t use iChat linking with my Gmail account.

Hi all,

I'm using a MacBook 2.4 GHz. I've got a Gmail account. I want to use iChat with a Gmail account on my Mac. I know the instruction, which works only in Tiger, but not with Leopard. I’ve tried the primary steps, but failed to configure it.

I need the iChat to work in my Mac Leopard because, I've to keep always connected with Gmail account and need to respond to important issues quickly. If I have iChat, I can do it easily. Please suggest.

I've read your message carefully. You mentioned that, you already have tried the primary steps. Could you please try with me again. First you have to create a jabber account in iChat.

To create a jabber account:

First click on iChat Icon which you'll find either in Dock or in Application. Clicking on iChat, you'll see iChat in the up menu bar besides the Apple logo; then select Preference; Selecting preference you'll see a dialog box where you will find in left side at the corner + – sign. To add a new account press +; Pressing (+) you will see a dialog box named Account Setup where you can find Account Type, MobileMe name, Password. Now select jabber account on Account Type then type your Account Name and Password.

I've try with your steps but still it's not working. I’ve created a jabber account and gave an account name and password but no positive results.

What should I do now?

Ok, I think you haven't selected the server option. You can see there is also an option for server, where you have to put the server name, Port number and have to select SSL; then done.

I think if you do this, you will be able to use your iChat.

But I don't know the Server Name and Port. Where do I find these? Any ideas?

Then, could you please try with this information Server: talk.google.com ; Port: 5223.

If that doesn’t work, then you have to contact your server administrator.

Dear Mohiuddin,

I found your message that you are using Leopard on your Mac. If you are using Leopard on your Mac then first you have to set up your iChat.

To set up iChat, please launch the iChat software; you'll see, "Welcome to iChat AV to get started click continue". Then comes iChat instant messaging. Your name should already be filled in here; for Account Type select AIM Account from the down menu. Leave the Account name and Password blank, then click continue; now you will see a set up jabber instant messaging; Click Use jabber Instant Messaging, then fill the account name in your Google Mail email address. Next do the final procedure by clicking iChat and then preference.
