Transferring Windows to a new hard drive.

I want to transfer my “Windows Installation” from one hard drive to another. I searched on the internet a found a method describing that I have to only copy and paste files. It tells me to Install the Windows system files to the new drive, you may go to the MS-DOS prompt and type SYS D: at the C> prompt."

I have currently installed Windows on drive C. And I want to transfer it on drive G. I try to do as mentioned above But I did not see any installation on drive G. Kindly inform me how to perform this task.

Transferring Windows to a new hard drive.

Dear Kelvin,

You asked a question about a procedure, to copy/paste your Windows from one drive to another, which you read somewhere in the internet. To be honest, as far as my IT knowledge is concerned, I have not scene such procedure. In order to transfer your Windows to a new drive, you have to boot it on that particular drive through the proper way. Otherwise your windows will not work.

In case you want to avoid the procedure of re-booting your windows, every time you want to renew it, there is a tool named “Hiren’s Boot CD”.  It allows you to make a back up of your Windows, and every time you want to renew the OS, just format that drive. After formatting, just copy/paste the back up files through Hirens Boot CD.

Transferring Windows to a new hard drive.

 

Hi there , 

 

I think its little too hard to copy from one windows to another ,

 

Try using the windows method , In start -> accessories -> system tools you can see transfer wizard ,

in that you can transfer your data , programs and registry equipments from one pc to another.

 

That's easy but according to your way you mentioned here . 

 

using this code  MS-DOS prompt and typing SYS D: at the C> prompt. "

 

Go to MS DOS not through run ok . Run it in administrator first that would be better . 

Go to C: -> then Windows -> then system32 -> then find the file cmd.exe and then right click on it and click on run as administrator (in Windows 7 ok) . 

 

Now retype your command from  SYS D: at the C> prompt.

To  MS-DOS prompt and typing SYS G: at the C> prompt.
