Hi David Harrison,

PXE is an environment to boot computers in the network. It is introduced by Intel.

Thousands of computers are connected via network and this idea has come with an answer for it.

It reduces cost of ownership.

Once the local PC wakes up, it starts up the network card and configures itself. When a PXE client boots, it must do two things.

1. It obtains IP from a DHCP server. But unfortunately, it calls for some options may not work on all DHCP servers, so most softwares that support PXE includes a proxy DHCP service. This proxy service doesn’t offer IP addresses directly but does allow DHCP operation.

2. Once it connects to the DHCP server, the system does locate a PXE boot server which will send to it the appropriate files from which to boot.

Once PXE gets enabled, anytime PC boots up, a message appears, asking the user the option of booting with PXE or continuing the normal boot process from the local hard disk.
