I have a server set up with Mac X Operating System. The clients that are bound to the domain appear in the “Computers” workgroup.
However, I cannot see the server in the said group. I did try to add the server to this group but there was an error message saying that there was already a computer with the same name in it. I decided to create a new group to where I can add the server to.
Can you help me figure out how to view the server and add it to the newly created workgroup? Thanks!
Cannot access the server but it is detected
In order to resolve this issue, you may need to completely disconnect the computer from the workgroup. If possible, try to remove all computers on the workgroup then just add them back. If the issue still persist, try to check for any stale network records. These records may contain the name of the computer which is unable to join.
To locate stale network please check the following locations:
· DNS A or PTR records;
· DNS SRV records where you have to look for computer as well as domain name;
· WINS records where you have to look for computer as well as domain name;
· Host file in Windowssystem32driversetchosts
