Annoying Error on Startup issue

Hi,

Whenever I make a boot up on my computer, I get stuck with a System Boot Error screen. Although I can still continue with my desktop, when I hit F1 key, this windows appears every time I started my system. This started after the lights go out. When I open my computer again, the same window is always present. I have ASUS P5VD2-MX and a PHOENIX Award BIOS.

I already hit the F2 key to enter setup for BIOS and set it to default, but it does not do anything on my system. I also ran memtest86 to check on my memory, but it found no error, same thing when I test my hard disk.  I've done a series of system restore, but it's still there. It just makes my computer to hang and freeze most of the time.

The only thing that I haven’t tried so far is to wipe all the data's on my hard drive. But I can't do that since I have important data's to save first. I want to open my CPU to check on the IDE cables if ever I have lose connections, but I don't know how to do that. I hope someone here can help me resolve this. Because I don't want this to grow into a major damage to my system. I'm running Windows XP Professional.

Annoying Error on Startup issue

The problem you are facing can be due to a faulty battery of your motherboard. The battery on your motherboard helps store and backup all the vital information on the BIOS like the processor information, current date and time etc. If that is the case you need to replace the battery on your motherboard.

This might happen if you switch off the power supply of your PC after shutting it down. You can check that by turning off your PC but keeping the power source alive. If you see the time is correct and the system is starting without any interruptions after keeping the power source alive, the cause of this is the battery of your motherboard which powers your motherboard even when your PC does not have any active power source. In that case you need to replace the battery on your motherboard.

If you still see the error after replacing the battery you can try updating the BIOS and see if it helps. To update the BIOS just go to https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5VD2MX/ and download. It will be better for you to download a windows version of the “BIOS Update”.

If nothing helps there is definitely a problem with your motherboard or processor. It's time to seek help from a qualified technician.

Annoying Error on Startup issue

This sure did the trick! Thanks a lot. I replaced the CMOS battery and the error is gone. I was skeptical at first but knowing Techyv, I am sure that my problem will be fix. Thank you so much!
