I have been using Adobe reader for a long time, but frequently I get message to update activex in browser, can anyone know what really activex do adobe reader.

When you install any version of the Adobe reader onto your computer, it automatically installs ActiveX along with it. ActiveX is a set of rules on how application should share information. Adobe Reader needs the ActiveX application to work.
You are getting the error message because your ActiveX may not be updated. I suggest you to update your ActiveX. It does not cause any harm to your programs or applications.
