Hi guys,

We all know that in the world of multi website hosting they are use for business, social networking sites and any other technical purposes but I don’t even know how it works. Can you let me know what are those multi website hosting? And how are they related to domain servers because I want to have some knowledge regarding this matter for future use.

What are those multi website hosting?

Hi Vanessa,

Now a days multi website hosting is widely used by business companies, social sites and single website providers or small firms too.

Multi website hosting is done by a method known as Virtual Hosting in I. T. terms. Virtual hosting method allows one server to share its resources, such as memory and processor cycles, without requiring all services provided to use the same host name and thus you can establish multiple websites on single server.

There are three main types of virtual hosting:-

1. IP based

2. Name based

3. Port based

Most generally ip based or name based virtual hosting is used.

As above name types implies  Name based virtual hosting uses the host name presented by the client and IP based virtual hosting uses a separate IP address for each host name, and it can be performed with any protocol but requires a dedicated IP address per domain name served .Port based virtual hosting is also possible in principle but is rarely used in practice because it is unfriendly to users.
