I am trying to view some mms:// links posted for an online film class, the file extension is .wmv.
I have the latest Flip4Mac components for Quicktime, but I read that even with that some wmv files can be difficult to open. I haven't been able to find a solution, the links open Quicktime player by default maybe there is a way to have it open using another program? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

VLC has encountered with an unexpected error
Hi there Walter E Laymon,
Have you checked the log for details about the error? Error log is quite useful in this kind of problem.
The first thing you should do is to check if the file exists on the stated location. Just open the link to the file in any browser to make sure the file is there.
Also, check your network connection to make sure that poor internet connection is not causing the problem.
In case everything's fine with the file and your internet connection, you should look up to your firewall settings. Disabling the firewall completely may help. Disabling the firewall in each of the browsers you have installed on your computer can do the trick too.
VLC requires one port to be open, so make sure to open one port and dedicate it only to the VLC.
