I had my iPhone 4 for a long time. Now it is has died leaving me just a SD card of information. I am thinking of upgrading to the iPhone 6. But I wanted to check to see if I can transfer my files from the SD to the new iPhones?
If you want to shift to the latest iPhone 6 Smartphone and you want to see if you can transfer the data from the SD card of the old and broken iPhone 4 to the new phone, I guess it will depend on the kind of data you want to transfer.
If the data you want to transfer is a backup of the old iPhone 4 and you wish to restore that information on the new unit, I don’t think that’s possible. You cannot restore the data if the target handset is running on a different operating system. For example, if the backup file was created using iOS 7, the target unit where the information will be restored to should also be running on iOS 7.
The source and the destination should be of the same mobile operating system. The Apple iPhone 4 is running on iOS 4 and can be upgraded until iOS 7.1.1. The Apple iPhone 6, on the other hand, runs on iOS 8 and can be upgraded until iOS 8.1.3. You see here, even if your old iPhone 4 has been upgraded to the highest iOS version, it is still incompatible with the new mobile phone.
If the data on the SD card are only ordinary files like photos, apps, documents, or videos, there is no problem putting them on your new iPhone 6. The apps will depend if they still support the new mobile OS. If they don’t support it, just update them.
