Spiceworks is an excellent free network inventory and management package. My question is how does it deal with the stand-alone PCs?

Hello,

Yes, I would have to agree with you. Spiceworks is an excellent tool for Networking  as it provides everything you need to map your network. That includes monitoring of important events on network devices, it also audits the installation activity on local and remote PCs. Thus creating a big push to the troubleshooting data needed for an IT personnel.

It is also a good tool even on stand alone PCs because it can keep records on the software activities that you have installed or removed. It can also alert you with local system problems as same as it can alert you with the network issues. Spiceworks tracks all important events in your computer may it be network or stand alone.

I hope this helps

If you want to know if you can install it on a standalone computer that is not connected to any network, the answer is yes. But can you use it? No. The software is designed to be installed on a computer that is connected to a network like in a local area network.

Yes, you can always install it on a disconnected computer but you won’t be able to use it since there are no other computers that you can connect or map to so it’s still useless. The product is designed for IT professionals who mostly have administrator rights on the network.

It is suitable for organizations that have 1,000 or lesser devices connected to the network. It will still work with much higher connected devices but the speed won’t be that fast. When it is operated on a computer, it is capable of discovering Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Unix.

But to achieve this, the software needs to be executed from a computer that runs Microsoft Windows and is connected to the network. The Spiceworks Free Network Monitoring application is used by different professionals in various industries such as in Government, Manufacturing, Education, Information Technology Service Providers, Healthcare, Software, and lots more.

It works on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and later, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 and later, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. To download, visit Download Spiceworks Free Network Monitoring Software.
