Linking files to Lotus Notes Database

I am having some difficulty with creating links to files in Lotus Notes. I am able to create the links, but when the source file is changed it is not reflected in Notes. I am testing using Lotus Notes mail, and have been able to highlight a section of a file (e.g. Word document), and paste it into Notes (using Paste Special/Create link), and if I open the Word document and make a change within the section I highlighted, the change will be reflected in Notes.

If I make a change elsewhere in the document, the change is not reflected. Ideally what I am looking for is a way to create a link to an entire source document, so that if the source document changes, the changes are reflected in Lotus Notes. Other times that I have tried, I have created the link, and when I changed the source document, then Notes can no longer find it.

Some HELP!!!

Linking files to Lotus Notes Database

To be able to successfully get files linked you need to create NDL FILE.

  • To do this, create an NDL file and then create linking by doing a Edits-copying as link
  • Open the notepad.
  • Paste text into the editor.
  • If in Word, then select the area where you want to add the linking then do an edit.
  • Insert an object from the file option;
  • Choose then create option and then go ahead and pick the latest saving on the files.
  • Something to keep in mind is that you can always get to create NDL quickly and automatically if you use database utility websites for Lotus.
  • These simple steps should come in handy to help you sort your linking from other databases to Lotus Notes.
