Seagate hard disk making ticking sounds. Failing or defect?

Hi,

I have a 500GB Seagate hard disk which started making a weird sound when the PC boots up. There are no errors when the hard disk gets tested and no visible degradation on it's work process.

It's a ticking sound which appears soon as the PC gets booted and while it is running.

Does anybody know the reason for this and could it get worse?

It has been like this for at least a month now with no degradation effect to it's content or work capabilities.

Much appreciated,

G,

Ticking sounds are not good. This sound can come from different parts of computer like DVD drives also. Make sure it is from HD only. If it is from HD the try to use disk keeper tool to check any bad sectors available in your HD. If it is available and try to recover using the same tool. Once it is done check whether ticking is still observer or not.

If even then it shows then it is like your HD is going to be dead soon. So better backup the things as early as possible. Get it replaced by Seagate based on the warranty. Its not a big problem but quill become big once the data is lost.

Hi,

May be this sound is Normal and Please contact your seller and complain about it. Try HD detecting software and Check your HD and  Wise step is backup your valuable data. Then don't worry  and  HD is sensitive item and don't try to repair it. Just contact your seller.
