Hi,

I am using an application Resource Hacker, but it gives me the following error message when I try to use it.

How can I resolve this issue using Windows XP Operating System.

I searched for the solution online but I need an expert’s advice.

Thanks for any suggestion.

Hi Paul!

The problem you are having is not that bad and it has a simple solution. What you need to understand is that when Resource Hacker is  modifying different files on your computer it actually creates a backup file (a copy of the original file) in the same folder as the new file. For instance, the "shell32.dll" that you're trying to modify has a back-up copy in its folder, named "shell32_original.dll".

In order for the new file to be allowed, you have to go and manually delete the original file. So, go to the C: partition, in the WINDOWS folder, subfolder "system32" and delete the shell32_original.dll file. Please see the image.

This should solve your problem.
