Generous Help is needed. I was about to check a registry key in the registry editor, when I double clicked it, it won't open and only shows this message.

What could be wrong?

Registry editor error opening key

Error opening key

Cannot open .dvr-ms: error while opening key.

Thanks,

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

To resolve that issue, use the following steps:

  • On your computer click Start, and then click Run, and then type regedit in the Open field, and then click OK.
  • After that locate and then double-click LogLevel under the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetup
  • Go to the Edit DWORD Value window and then click to select Hexadecimal on the Base pane.
  • After that type 0000FFFF in the Value data box, and then click OK.

Regards,

Carl

Try the following workarounds. Use your Reg Editor to grant Read Only permissions. Follow the methods below:

1. Click Start> Run> type regedit and then hit OK.

2. Locate the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl SecurePipeServers

3. Under winreg, right click it and then hit Permissions and then click Add.

4. Type Local Service under the "Enter the object names to select" text box and then hit OK.

5. Tick to select the Allow check box under the "Permissions for LOCAL SERVICE" list.

6. Close your reg editor and then restart your computer.

Don't forget to backup your system before editing anything on your registry as this may cause harm if edited incorrectly.
