Protection of database in MS Access 2007 without modification in application

One of my applications was created using Visual Basic 6.0 and using database of Access. It was developed with Access 1997 and converted by the database to Access 2007. Normally, the Access database file is protected by using administration file which is .mdw, to restrict the user not to access the file directly without permission. But the problem is that, I could not find this option in MS-Access 2007, so the database is unprotected and the user can directly access it. I have asked help from Office support and I got the information that work group administrator is removed in MS-Access 2007. So, for giving the password to database, the application is to be modified. Does anybody know to protect the database in MS-Access 2007, without any modification in application. If so, can you please help me?

Hello Celinda,

To set the password in the ms access documents to protect your file from unauthorized access and modification, use the following procedure:

Open the ms access file.

  • Go to file in then ms access menu and then click on save as.
  • Choose the access 97-2003 compatibility format to save.
  • In the window that will open, click on Tools and then general options.
  • Enter the passwords to open and the passwords to modify the document.
  • Click save when you are done.

Hope this helps.
