Later this year there will be a possibility of releasing a Ultrabook by Dell which will be a Ubuntu-powered Ultrabook and this project is called “Project Sputnik”.

What would be the version of this Ubuntu powered Ultrabook, Ubuntu 12.04 or Ubuntu 12.10?

Project Sputnik: Ubuntu powered ultrabook by Dell.

Hi Kylie!

Project Sputnik is a new developer laptop initiative between Dell's XPS13 Laptop and Ubuntu, a Linux Operating System.

This project will run the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating system as announced by Barton George in his blog.

Sputnik contains:

1. Drivers and patches for hardware enablement

2. Key tools and utilities

3. Software management tool for github repository.

Project Sputnik is still in the planning stages; but if anything goes well, an Ubuntu Ultrabook from Dell may become available by the end of this year. Again, the Ubuntu-powered Ultrabook will use the Ubuntu 12.04 operating system.
