PC Tools Internet Security Error: 0xc0000142

I am running Windows 7 and I encounter this error message “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.” whenever I try opening the PC Tools Internet Security. I tried severally times to uninstall and reinstall it, but the same error occurs. Please help me fix this. Thanks

PC Tools Internet Security Error: 0xc0000142

Hi Stepheen,

Do you have any protection software installed and running on your computer?  If so, it may potentially conflict with the PC Tools Internet Security software.  Some of the older system protection or spyware software have been known to cause issues with PC Tools.

If no, I would try uninstalling the software, re-installing, rebooting your machine, and try running the software again.

Hi there Stepheen Sommers,

 

Looks like there is some sort of conflict between the some other security tool you used before or have installed on your computer and the PC Tools. In order to make things work again you will most likely need to clean your system completely from all previous and current security tools and do a fresh install of only one.

 

The easiest way to remove any leftovers from the previous security tools is to visit the webpage of the software you were using and to use their software removal tool. It will clean up your computer completely so there is no any leftovers. Also, it would be great to run CCLEANER too, as that will clean up your registry files. 

 

Once everything's clear you will be able to install any security tool including the PC Tools.
