Guyz,

I'm getting the “0x800ccc0e” error when trying to receive mail in Outlook Express.  It says that it cannot connect to my server.  What could be wrong?

You experts sure can figure it out for me.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Jim Johanson

There are multiple reason for receiving this error. Most common of these errors are listed below. Kindly check the same one by one:

1-      Due to the blockage of one particular port 25, by the Service provider or the Mail administrator, this error may error. Normally this is the least logical cause, but should not be negated. Please check

2-      The most common reason is with the account settings of outlook. What happens is that during the account setting, you put the ougoing server as POP3, instead of SMTP.Check the same.

3-      Check the internet connectivity, specially the DNS setting. The wrong DNS setting means wrong IP address where the computer / SMTP is trying to connect

4-      If you have a firewall, it may be blocking the SMTP connection.

ALL THE ABOVE POINTS CAN BE CHECKED BY RUNNING A TEST, WHICH IS AVAILABLE ON THE SITE: http://smtp.icannotconnect.com/

5-      It is possible that the SMTP server is actually down. You can again check this from the ISP or administrator.

Rgds,

This error code is caused by inbound and outbound email protection. It doesn't mean that the security software is failing but it try to block email messages going in and out because of too many email messages need to be downloaded. There maybe email messages that has large attachment that the security software won't allow you to download all at once.

Here are the steps and resolution related to error 0x800CCC0E and other similar error code 0x800CCC0E, 0x800CCC0D, 0x800CCC0F

You need to restart the computer
Then you need disable any Firewall or Antivirus software
If needed, recreate mail account and send test message
If the error still persist when doing test email then test in web mail for possible network outage
And if web mail works, then the problem might be with the actual software itself
The security software maybe faulty and needs to adjust the settings
