Hi,

My Windows 7 Operating System has carried out some drive-checking job at its own. However, I did not set any scheduled checking job. Is there any problem with my Operating System? Is it harmful for my machine? How can I get a remedy of this issue? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Hanley,

Your problem is just a check disk or “chk dsk” it’s not harmful or anything it just check, if you want to disable it follow this.

  1. Click start type in “RUN” and then press enter.
  2. A pop-up will appear enter “regedit” press enter.
  3. Look for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" click it to expand then click the system>currentcontrolset>>control>session manager
  4. Double click boot execute you will see the default autochk* now change it with “autochk /K:C*
  5. Exit and now restart your pc it should not check the disk.

It will continue without checking. Thank you feel free to post another question here.

If a virus scan is carried out then it can be a regular task for your windows security however if it is a windows program task then you need to worry about it. May be the scan is not complete last time and you are facing it again so try to run it fully and make sure you have not set any disk scan previously.
