I use Google chrome more frequently than any other browser and that is why I set it as my homepage. But recently I downloaded something from Internet and now I go back to my original homepage which was Google Chrome. Whenever I open the browser, it takes me to some page "websearch.it" something and I have changed my homepage by going in the settings so many times but whenever I open the browser, the same page opens. My default search engine has also been changed from Google chrome to something else. What should I do?

This problem sounds like you might have malware. A few hints that will indicate that you are the victim of malware are:

  • Chrome is not preventing pop-up ads from displaying
  • Your homepage, startup page, or search engine is now different

In order to restore Google Chrome as your browser, you first need to get rid of the malware. Uninstall the malware or other programs that you don't remember installing. You can download an application called the Software Removal Tool. It will search your computer for suspicious programs and remove them. You can find the Software Removal Tool here.

Once you have removed all programs or malware that are causing you the problems, reset your browser to your favorite homepage. If you use the Software Removal Tool, it will take you through the necessary steps to reset your browser. Otherwise, follow these steps:

1. In the top-right corner of the browser window, select the Chrome menu.

2. Choose Settings.

3. Click Show advanced settings.

4. Under the section "Reset settings," select Reset settings.

5. In the dialog that displays, click Reset.
