You guessed it correctly, the problem is because of McAfee as it makes the file quarantine. To fix this problem, you need to turn the task time scanning feature of McAfee off and then restore the game or download it again from the website to get the file back. This will fix the error not may make your PC prone to viruses so it is for you to decide what is more important.

If that’s the case and it is your antivirus that’s making the file unavailable, you are probably using a cracked version of Counter-Strike. Your antivirus won’t delete the file if it doesn’t detect anything malicious from the file. If you are sure your game is clean, check the quarantine section of your antivirus to see if the missing EXE file is there.

If you verify that the file is really quarantined, add the file to your antivirus’ exclusion list to prevent the program from checking the EXE file again in the future and will just ignore it. In case the missing EXE file is not there, try reinstalling Counter-Strike and add the affected EXE file to the exclusion list of your antivirus to make sure it will not be deleted again.

There are different versions of Counter-Strike from the original version up to the newer versions like the newer “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” and they have different system requirements. The old ones like the Counter-Strike 1.6 can be played on low-end computers but the newer ones like the “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” requires a higher-end system. Counter-Strike 1.6 supports Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

It requires 500 MHz or faster processor, 96 MB RAM, video card with 16 MB video RAM, and sound card. The newer “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10.

It requires Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or equivalent AMD Phenom X3 8750 or faster processor, 2 GB RAM, Microsoft DirectX 9.0c-compatible video card with 256 MB video RAM and Pixel Shader 3.0 support, and 15 GB free space.
