Lost Realtek AC’97 with Error Code 10

After installing Windows 7 on my computer, I lost my Realtek AC’97 with Error Code 10 and in my device manager; a yellow exclamation mark keeps appearing next to it. I own an Intel Premier P4 32-Bit 2 GB.

I contacted the manufacturer’s site but they went out of business. So, I visited Realtek’s site and downloaded the newest driver update but still didn’t work. Also, on the bottom right corner of my screen, the speaker symbol is marked with a red cross. What does this mean? Can anyone please help me in solving this issue? Thanks a bunch to those who can help.

Hello Daisy Paz,

Most of the time the error code 10 refers to the corrupted or outdated drivers.

In your case, the driver you had initially installed, for AC 97 audio, was outdated, and after which you have downloaded the updated driver, BUT you had NOT removed the old driver, as such you are still receiving the same error.

What you can do is that, first uninstall the driver, by going to the device manager, (right click my computer- select properties, and select device manager). Than in front of sound video and game controller, select AC 97 and remove.

Download the correct driver.

Unzip the downloaded file, and run setup. The driver will be installed. If you still see the errors, then you have to work on the registry and do a simple action called “remove upperfilters and lower filters.

The complete guide to perform this operation is given.
