Hey Jersey hidalgo!

You must be receiving this error on either Windows 95, 98, and Me or Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0. It seems that there are some components missing in your windows. You must update your windows installer. You can search for windows installer on the internet. For your help, I am going to add links for you. You can download just by clicking on the link.

For Windows 95, 98, and Me:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4237

For Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11176

Once download, install it and you will not see this error anymore.

I hope it will help you.

Thanks.

Hi there user:

This error occurred while the installation of Microsoft .Net Framework application progresses. But to resolve this, I need to know what windows you are using. But anyway, I have solutions for Windows 2000.

This is for Windows 2000, just download the INSTMSIW.EXE http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11176

– Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 and the Windows 2000.

– INSTMSIW.EXE a redistributable package for install and upgrade version.

I hope this could solve your problem.

Thanks for posting here at techyv.com

If you encounter this problem when starting any program then you have a different case. This problem can be encountered not only when launching an application but also when installing programs like Microsoft .NET Framework, common applications, browser-based software, and others. Also, sometimes, it is not only the “instmsiw.exe” file that triggers a missing file error. There are times the missing file error points to the “instmsia.exe” file.

There are also times this error message is displayed instead of a missing file error: “This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service”. This is a typical MSI problem or the one that triggers the error is the Windows Installer.

The Windows Installer is formerly known as the Microsoft Installer and processes MSI files. It is an API and software component of Microsoft Windows used for the installation, removal, and maintenance of software. The easiest way to fix the problem is to install the latest Windows Installer and the best way to do it is to install the latest Service Pack for your operating system.

If you are using Windows XP, download and update your operating system to Windows XP Service Pack 3. This is the latest and last Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows XP. If you are using Windows Vista, download and update your operating system to Windows Vista Service Pack 2. This is the latest and last Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows Vista.

If you are using Windows 7, download and update your operating system to Windows 7 Service Pack 1. This is the latest and only available Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows 7.
