This issue may happen due to some files of your iPod got infected Trojan or virus. To fix this issue, Connect iPod to pc in data storage mode. Now open cmd (Command prompt) and format using cmd. (as per below)

Then scan with this device using good antivirus software. Now add your audio files or other data to your iPod but make sure these files are not infected with virus.

Hello,

Most errors occur when the File system is corrupt or during a restore session that didn't complete fully. There are a number of solutions available you can try on to recover your iPod from smart data error. You can use Disk utility if you have a Mac or through Windows PC restore through iTunes which re-formats the iPod.

To manually reset your iPod, Hold & press the Menu button& the center button together simultaneously for a minute until the Apple Logo comes on. Wait until reset process is complete & try to see if the error has been resolved.
  3. To reset through iTunes, Open iTunes> Connect your iPod>Select iPod source when it appears after connecting > Click on Restore button.
