My IPad 3 has iOS 7 in it. I like the iOS 6 more than the new iOS 7. Can I change the operating system and go back to using the iOS 6? Where can I find the firmware? Also please guide me how to make this change. I am new to Apple and do not know much about Apple devices.

Method of reverting back from iOS 7 to iOS 6 is extremely hard to do, and only works in the some of the small number of cases. It may therefore be worth considering sticking with iOS 7. Once you agree to upgrade to higher version, downgrading to lower version doesn’t work all the time and its most hard/difficult task to do. iOS 7 has many new features. Some of them are listed below.

1.    The new control center

2.    The multitasking menu

3.    The new photo gallery

4.    Automatic updates of app store

5.    Visual design

Before you can revert your device to a previous version of the iOS mobile operating system, you need to have an archived copy or backup of your device to make sure you can restore your data back after the downgrade. If you don’t have a backup, you will end up with an empty phone without your previous data.

To properly backup your device, go to How to make an archived backup of your iPhone or iPad. Now, to downgrade your device, you need to put your device in recovery mode. To do this, first, download the latest iTunes and install it. Once installed, connect your iOS device to your computer using the USB cable that came with it.

While it is connected to your computer, force restart your device. If you have an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, quickly press and release the Volume Up button. Next, quickly press and release the Volume Down button. After this, press and hold the side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

If you have an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, press and hold the side button and Volume Down button simultaneously until you see the recovery mode screen. Once your device is in recovery mode, you can now begin the downgrading process. In iTunes, click “Restore” on the popup then “Restore and Update” to verify. In the Software Updater screen, click “Next” then “Agree” to accept the terms.

iTunes should begin downloading. Just wait until it is complete and iTunes will restore your device to the previous iOS version. Once your device is restored, the next and last step is to restore your data back to your phone. In iTunes, click “Restore from this backup” then select the backup you created earlier.

Your device should be back to where it was before you installed the new iOS once the restore is completed.
