Fragmentation makes your hard drive work much slower than it should. It also reduces the overall performance of the computer, thus slowing it down. So, to defragment your Windows 7 laptop’s hard drive, follow these steps:

1. Using the computer properties:

ï‚· Right-click on the hard disk drive (C :).

ï‚· Go to Properties, and click on the Tools tab.

 Click on the ‘Defragment Now’ button.

 Check the ‘Analyse Disk’ button, and wait while the Windows checks the Defragmentation amount on the media.

 Click on the ‘Defragment Disk’ button.

ï‚· When the process is complete, click the Close button.

2. Using Disk Defragmenter:

 Click on the Start button, and then type ‘Disk Defragmenter’ in the search bar.

ï‚· Select the disk under Current Status.

 Click on ‘Analyse Disk’ to determine whether it is essential to do this or not.

 If the number comes out to be above 10%, click on ‘Defragment Disk’.

It may take from minutes to hours for the process to finish.
