Should I scan my system full with a good and trusted antivirus like Kaspersky and Norton If I browse on Firefox 4 and hang frequently? Or I should upgrade my RAM to a bigger size?

Solution#01:

It may be caused by a corrupted database places. For new database places, perform the following:

  • Click Firefox window and click on the Firefox button (File menu in Windows XP) and then clickExit. Allow Firefox to complete the task.
  • Go to Firefox profile folder, find and rename the files “places.sqlite” and “places.sqlite-journal” (if it exists). For renaming, right-click on file and select rename from the menu. Then add “.old” at end of name.

Lastly, reopen Firefox, it will create a new places database. Your browsing history will be lost but recent bookmarks will be restored.

Solution#02:

Due to some graphics card and driver setups, Firefox may be hanging. You can turn off hardware acceleration in order to check the root cause.

1. At Firefox window, click Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click “Options”.

2. Click the “Advanced panel”& “General tab”.

3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.

4. At Firefox window, click Firefox button (File menu in Windows XP) and then click Exit.

5. Start Firefox normally.

If it resolves your problem then it will be caused by hardware acceleration. You can update your hardware driver to fix it.

If you are still using Mozilla Firefox 4 and it keeps on freezing, that’s because you are using a very old and unsupported version. What you should do is upgrade to the latest version because websites will no longer display properly in that version. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it.

Once installed, start Revo Uninstaller then select your Mozilla Firefox among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer.

When it is finished, close Revo Uninstaller then download the latest Mozilla Firefox web browser using Microsoft Internet Explorer or other browser. This should fix the problem.
