I got a call from a friend in a panic who kept seeing this when he tried to copy footage from one drive to win a client handed him. The weird thing is another test file would copy but it seemed like only the files he wanted to copy produced this error. The error message says,” The operation cannot be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0).”

Hi, Thomas.

This problem appears because most of the USB flash drives are formatted with FAT or FAT32 file system which is a windows file system and you can't copy a file which is larger than 4GB with FAT 32, even if your USBFlash drive has a bigger capability than 4GB. Show your friend these steps.

The first solution to get rid of this error is to make the file you need to copy smaller. You can do it by using file compression systems such as zip, rar and dmg (creating a disc image).

The other solution is to get rid of the 4 GB limitation so you can copy files of any size. To achieve this, you need to backup your data on another drive and Reformat your USB flash drive. Then open Disk Utility, select your USB flash drive and choose the tab which shows Erase button. Select Mac Os Extended from the volume format drop-down menu. Enter any name of your choice which will be the name of your device. Now click Erase button. After this process is completed you should be able to copy all files.
