Hi guys! I was trying to install Internet Explorer 9 on my Windows 7 64-bit PC.

But I always end up with error “Wrong version of Internet Explorer installer.” I am not sure if my installer is for 32-bit or 64-bit PC, but I downloaded it through Google Search.

How can I install IE9 correctly? Please help.

There are several reasons why the Internet Explorer 9 may not install on your computer successfully:

  1. If your Operating System minimum requirement is not met for you to successfully install IE9

First of all, in order to install a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer 9 you must be sure that you have uninstalled all previous versions.

Go to Control Panel, and then click Programs. After that go to Programs and Features, and in the right, select View Installed Updates. You will see a list there. Search for Windows Internet Explorer 9. If the list is too long just press the "W" on the keyboard and it will take you straight to it. After you have found it, Right-Click on it, and select Uninstall.

Reboot the computer, and then download the Internet Explorer 64-bit version for Windows 7 from this link of IE 64-bit

After installation reboot computer.

I guess you are right. You only get this error when you installed the wrong version of the program and in your case since you are using 64-bit Windows 7, you are probably running the 32-bit installer for Microsoft Internet Explorer 9. Though 64-bit Microsoft Windows allows a user to install 32-bit applications, maybe since Microsoft Internet Explorer is not just an ordinary application, the operating system requires the correct architecture.

You can easily fix it by installing the 64-bit version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 installer. To download, visit Internet Explorer 9 Windows 7 64-bit. It requires 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 8. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 is not the latest version for Windows 7. The latest version for Windows 7 is version 11.

To update to this version, visit Internet Explorer 11 Windows 7 64-bit. It has the same operating system requirement as with Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.
