I have this error when trying to open a Word Document.

When I click the OK button, it would pop up again but when I click the red X button the document opens fine.

Is it strange?

How can I fix this?

I am using Office 2007.

Hi,

If you are using Microsoft Word 2007 and you have a file that is not a Microsoft Word file but has .doc extension and you try to open it, you will see this kind of error. This will happen also if you are trying to open a very old file.

The solution for this problem is to disable the mswrd632 converter, then any file will be open by Microsoft Text converter. You can disable it by going to regedit (registry edit), from the Word "edit" means you have to modify a registry file that is MsWord6.wpc.

Follow the given guide below:

1. Click start menu then click run and type "regedit" without quotes. Then on registry editor, navigate to this folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsText ConvertersImportMSWord6.wpc

Follow the picture if you're not familiar with the registry.

You can right click on MSWrd6.wpc and select delete, alternately you can press delete button on your keyboard. After you delete close the registry then open your file again.

When using Windows XP SP 2 or above it like the Windows Server 2003 SP1, a plain document or file that do not have a .doc extension will produce this error while opening.

If you receive such an error try to disable the MS Word632 by going to the regedit and disable it from there.

Try and restart the computer, then try running it again.
