Windows System Error On Opening of Applications

I recently tried opening Google Chrome on my IBM Thinkcentre having Windows XP installed on it. However it showed the following error.

        

The application or DLL C:WINDOWSsystem32avicap32.dll is not valid Windows image.

Please check this against your installation diskette.        

It recently started coming each time I tried opening any application. Sometimes it even shuts down running applications which I loose my work due to it.

Any help shall be appreciated.

Hello! Myron,

The issue may be caused due to corrupted or missing avicap.dll file.You may try any of the below steps to resolve the issue.

Method 1: Scan the whole computer.

Certain avicap.dll error may be caused due to virus attack. Hence, scan the whole computer for virus or other Malware program. You can download and run the Safety Scanner from Microsoft that helps in removing viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Method 2: Download and install avicap.dll file from third-party websites.

avicap.dll file is available for free download from third-party websites. Download the file from the website, unzip and install. Or place the MSVCR71.dll file in Computer C:/Windows/System32 to resolve the issue.

Method 3: Reinstall the software.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Mozilla Firefox which may replace the file which in turn will resolve the issue.
