Android is the flagship operating system developed by Google. It is a very powerful open-source platform that lets software developers all over the world develop programs for it without costing a single cent. The operating system is free, and it can be installed on any mobile device. One primary reason why the number of Android users has increased is because it is free. Different mobile manufacturers, big or small, can design and develop mobile devices like tablets and smartphones with a minimum price tag because the operating system running in it is Android. Other mobile operating systems like the iOs and the Symbian are very limited operating systems because they are developed by only a single owner (Apple for iOs and Nokia for Symbian). Since the Android is free, everyone even the smallest developers can create programs for it that can be released and used worldwide.

The current version of the Android operating system being used is the 4.0, which is dubbed as Ice Cream Sandwich. However, speculations and rumors are roaming around the internet that an upgrade version 5.0, called Jellybean, is going to be released by Google.

With the use of Android and its JAVA application programming you can send email, arrange your contacts and calendars, it also has a browser, maps SMS programs and others. Android also includes a set of core libraries that provides most of the functionality available in the core libraries of the Java programming language. Android is a user friendly deviceas it more flexible and customizable and with Android, it's very possible that you will never be bothered by having to update your device, simply because there won't be any updates for it unlike Iphones/Ipad.
