Hey there!

Okay, I do encounter pop-ups whenever I browse on the internet. A friend of mine told me that I can block them using a pop-up blocker. Call me innocent, but I do not know where to find pop-up blocker in Google Chrome. I would appreciate it very much if somebody can give me a walk through.

Thanks.

Hi Kate!

Follow the steps below to get to the pop-up blocker tool, built-in to Google Chrome:
  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Press the Wrench icon located at the upper right hand corner of the browser.
  • At the drop down menu, select Options.
  • A new tab will be opened which has the address of chrome://settings/browser.
  • On the left pane of the window, under Options, click Under the Hood.
  • On the right pane of the opened tab, beside Privacy, you'll see a button for “Content settings” press it.
  • A sort of pop-up window will appear which says Content Settings.
  • Go to Pop-ups, and beside it select Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended).
  • After making changes to the settings, you may simply close the Options tab.

Google Chrome puts a stop to pop-ups from automatically showing up and filling up the computer screen. Each time the web browser prevents pop-ups from a particular website, an icon appears inside the actual address bar that looks like an outlined blue square with a red X below it. You can see that beside the Star icon for the Favorites/Bookmarks near the Wrench icon for the Options. Simply click that icon in order to see the pop-ups which have been blocked or perhaps to manage pop-up configurations for that particular web page.

To change the pop-up settings for a particular website or if you don’t want the pop-up blocker to block the pop-ups in a certain website, follow the steps below:

  • When pop-ups are blocked, you will see an icon that looks like an outlined blue square with a red X below it in the address bar. Click that icon to see the pop-ups which have been blocked.
  • Click the link for the pop-up that you would like to show.
  • If you want to always see pop-ups for a particular website, select "Always show pop-ups from [sitename]." Then the website is going to be added to the list of exceptions, wherein you can still change in the Content Settings from the first steps mentioned above.
Cheers!
