I recently purchased a used D-link DGL-5500 Gaming Router with VPN pass through and WPA2 security but it came without the software. Where can I download router driver for DGL-5500? Would it also be compatible with Windows 8 because I'm planning to upgrade my OS.

Your router is compatible with windows 8. But I've searched on web for Driver software for your descriptive product but I've not found any for your product.
But don't worried about it. I think you want to change the settings of the router. Though I'm not a professional but several times I changed router settings by following way.
Firstly resets your router. To do it you will find a reset tiny hole on your router press it with a pin. Now your router will be set to factory default setting. (Sometimes need to do for several times)
At first connect the router with your PC with LAN cable (connect on LAN port of the router).
Then change your PC's IP addresses according to router. Like 192.168.0.2 (if DHCP enabled on the router then no need to change IP. To check this just skip this step try the next step before this step)
Now open a browser and type router's default IP on address bar & press Enter key. Like 192.168.0.1
Now you will be asked for User Name & Password. There you should give a default user name & password. ( Generally it is written on the router. But if you failed after putting correctly then you must ask the seller for settings. ) For your router it is as below;

| Â Default admin username: | Admin |
| Â Default admin password: | (Blank) |
Now you will log into the router built-in software & change settings as you wish.
If you failed, then please ask the seller for settings that he changed to router (Like IP, username, password etc.).
