How could Social Media be the next frontier for threat for IT security professionals and the companies they protect? How big is the threat posed by issues like unauthorized social media accounts, account hijacking and content threat etc? Does it make sense to pay to protect my company’s image in the social media ?

What is threat arising from Social Media to companies?

Even though social media like Facebook, twitter are helpful to the organizations, they pose many threats. Some people may post malicious links on Facebook so that if any employee of an organization clicks that link, then through that computer system, the entire intranet and the database in the organization might get hacked by the hackers. Not only that, some employers may play on Facebook games during work hours such that productivity gets affected. To protect from these threats, company has to train all of its employees about how to recognize scams and keep them updated to the latest threats. The company has to always update their software, keeping antivirus, keeping track of all websites the employees are visiting during their work can help a company to protect from social media threats.
