What is the meaning of picture square block barcode?

On some packaging, I saw a 2D picture square block barcode, I wonder it does or even its meaning. Can it be used for billing or source for some information about a product?

What is the meaning of picture square block barcode?

Barcodes are automatic ID symbol that are machine readable license plate. In human eyes, they are just black 2d image, but when scan it contains unique serial numbers keys that corresponds into a database containing detailed information for the product where the barcode is present like, price and number of available stocks.

The 2D picture barcode you are describing is becoming more and more widely used.  The days of the old UPC barcode are becoming a thing of the past.  The barcodes are known as QR Codes or Quick Response Codes.  They were first used in the auto industry but because of the new smart phones these codes are being put on everything.  The information that iskept on the barcodes can consist of 4 different modes.  These modes can be alphanumeric, numeric, byte/binary and Kanji, also, through extensions virtually any kind of data can be on one of the barcodes.

The QR Codes have become more widely used by advertising agency because they can be the link between the product and the product's website.  If the codes contain the information they can take the consumer to the website and possibly make more sales.  Connecting these codes to websites or URL's means that if you have the right type of reader in your phone, this use can be endless from tracking addresses to bonus programs like the 5% "cash back" programs offered by credit cards.  Not only are these codes used commercially but they can also be used to store personal information that can be tied to your cell phone.  So as technology becomes better and better these codes are going to be more widely used and will contain more and more information making their uses endless.
